As a core teaching faculty member, this position will be responsible for educating future leaders in addiction counseling who provide evidence-based integrated care for substance use and co-occurring disorders. This position innovates and continuously improves key education processes based on educational research, internal assessment data, and academic expertise, so that course offerings, teaching strategies and curriculum development demonstrate improved achievement of learning outcomes. Performs teaching, advising, and supervision duties in area of expertise.  Participates in the assignment, creation, coordination, and monitoring of clinical placements and internship/externship activities to provide high quality clinical experiences for students in alignment with the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School mission, vision, values, goals, and priorities.  Provides orientation to placement sites, clinical supervisors, and students, and conducts periodic site-visits to placements outside of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.   This position may have responsibilities for placement for both degree programs: on-campus and/or online programs. Patient Access Coordinators (PAC) are the gateway to care for our applicants to become patients with one-call resolution. PAC’s will answer calls live, doing a high level assessment to determine clinical appropriateness for one of our facilities and verification of benefits. PAC’s will collaborate with a number of other roles within the organization to provide resolution for the caller in the first call and to set up an appointment for a clinical assessment when appropriate. Customer service and sales are important skills, along with the ability to multi-task. - Utilize customer service and sales skills to provide resolution to caller’s needs. - Conduct screening to determine clinical fit for Hazelden Betty Ford substance abuse services. - Obtain financial and insurance/benefit information in order to determine eligibility to participate in the programs available through HBFF locations. - Manage patient caseload to ensure conversion to admit. - Ensure appropriate documentation is recorded in patient record to facilitate complete and accurate registration in the EHR.

As an Addiction Counselor, you will:  - Provide clinical services in coordination with the multi-disciplinary team consistent with Hazelden Betty Ford's Standards of Care including: - Assessment:  - Conducts and documents introductory and initial counselor interviews and designs initial treatment plan. - Have knowledge and skills in recognizing symptoms of addictions according to DSM 5 criteria and documenting data to support diagnosis.  - Identifies, prioritizes, and documents clinical issues to be addressed in treatment and continuing care.  - Consistently contacts and involves patient, referent and family as appropriate in assessment and care planning processes. - Care Planning - Creates individualized care and continuing care plans that include multidisciplinary input as well as involvement of the patient, referent, family, and other appropriate collateral resources. - Care - Utilizes and conducts 1:1 and group counseling consistent with 12-step facilitation principles to facilitate patient awareness, understanding, and motivation to change related to addiction and recovery issues.  - Family Counseling – can facilitate family’s/significant other’s need for Family Program/ Alanon or other appropriate services.   - Facilitates family conferences consistent with Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation philosophy and requests supervision when required. - Continuing Care - Consults with multidisciplinary team, patient, family and referent (consistent with CFR 42 and CFR 45) to address clinical issues both verbally and in writing related to continuing care, including types of care, level of care, and intensity of services across biopsychosocialspiritual issues and the rationale for each. - Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, provide clinical coaching, as assigned, to students and interns to facilitate development of clinical competency and ethical practice. - Uses principles of clinical supervision in work with Graduate Program students and interns. - Represent Hazelden Betty Ford services to various audiences to ensure consistent knowledge about services, processes and participation.

Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of co-occurring mental health needs of patients. Treatment of patients will involve assessment (including psychological testing) and therapy, including group therapy, with patients who present with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses. Additional duties involve participation as a member of a multidisciplinary team, crisis intervention, supervision of unlicensed mental health staff, and ongoing care planning. - Provide mental health assessment ensuring proper identification of mental and chemical health concerns. - Demonstrate proficiency in administration, scoring and interpretation of various psychological testing instruments (e.g. MMPI, WAIS, etc.), and integrate results in establishing diagnoses, treatment planning, etc. - Create treatment plans in alignment with patient’s identified diagnoses and goals. - Provide individual and/or group therapy utilizing evidence-based intervention strategies and best practices. - Consistently document assessment and therapy sessions, as well as charges for services, in an accurate and timely manner, consistent with organizational policy. - Function within one’s competencies and seek consultation when necessary. - Consult regularly with multidisciplinary team staff members and/or key collateral contacts to work toward comprehensive care for patient, as needed. - Demonstrate ability to identify ethical dilemmas and consult with appropriate resources. - Provide supervision of unlicensed clinical staff. - Facilitate crisis intervention to ensure safety and well-being of patients, including risk assessment, safety planning, and conflict resolution.
