    Responsibilities

    The Medical Director, Midwest Region ensures on a day-to-day basis that the medical team carries out Hazelden’s promise to our patients: that patients, families and customers will have the best opportunity for lifelong recovery.

     

    The medical director does this by providing medical oversight for the designated Hazelden program(s); providing supervision of any physicians connected with the program, developing and supporting productivity and patient clinical-scheduling benchmarks, acting as a liaison to the local medical community, participating in the establishment and implementation of health care policies, examining and treating patients and performing related duties as required.  This position is under administrative and operations direction of the Regional Vice President of Recovery Services and under the medical and clinical direction of the Chief Medical Officer.

    • Physician Leadership - Supervise all physicians, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners, either employees or contractors, at multiple locations.
    • Patient Care - Clinical Leadership - Provide guidance and decision support concerning the provision of medical services for all phases of the care continuum.
    • Quality of Care
    • Education, Information, and Communication - Represent Hazelden services to various audiences to ensure consistent knowledge about services, processes and participation.

    • Educate, consult and lead other healthcare professionals in the assessment, diagnosis and management of medical conditions in order to promote and ensure safe quality treatment of physical health complications.
    • Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary teams as assigned.
    • Follow Hazelden professional and behavioral competencies in the performance of all duties.
    • Actively participate in the development of a physician services team and increase the involvement of physician services in multidisciplinary care delivery
    • In addition to the leadership and administrative duties; provide direct patient clinical services as described in the job description of your MD specialty such as staff psychiatrist or staff physician for the agreed upon ratio of clinical to administrative time. 
    • Participate in the on call duties with other members of the medical team as needed

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Doctorate (MD)
    • DEA Certificate
    • DEA DATA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (within 30 days of hire)
    • At least 5 years of physician experience in a health care facility
    • Addiction related medical practice
    • Minimum two years freedom from chemical use problems
    • Must not have had a felony conviction or been incarcerated as a result of a felony conviction in the last three years
    • Excellent interpersonal skills required to interact with all levels of associates and customers.
    • Current license to practice medicine in state of hire
    • Board certification in internal medicine, family practice, psychiatry, or any ACGME specialty.
    • ASAM or ABAM certification or added qualifications in addiction psychiatry
    • DEA certificate
    • Buprenorphine certification

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous medical leadership experience
